Women`s Colleges

Women's Colleges
(Adapted from Fulbright Belgium's Women's Colleges resource)

Women's colleges are often overlooked in the college search process, as they are uncommon in Brazil. However, many women's colleges in the U.S. provide a top-notch education and offer a unique set of advantages for female students. Various studies have found that women who attend single-sex institutions are more likely to engage in higher-level thinking and to hold leadership roles than their counterparts at coed institutions. Women's colleges provide a challenging yet supportive environment for those who are seeking to push their academic and personal boundaries.

Did You Know?

Hillary Rodham Clinton, the current U.S. Secretary of State, graduated from a prestigious women’s college: Wellesley College.

• The first woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, Emily Green Balch, attended Bryn Mawr College.

• Women’s colleges graduate women in math and the sciences at 1.5 times the rate of coed institutions.

• Women enrolled in women’s colleges are more than twice as likely as their
counterparts at coeducational colleges to earn doctoral degrees.

• Graduates of women’s colleges earn more after graduation than female graduates of coeducational colleges because they often choose traditionally male disciplines as their academic major.

MHC’s 2,200 students come from 48 states and more than 70 countries. They currently have an international population of nearly 26 percent.
